Where does our name come from?

Our company was founded in The Netherlands in 2003 and was then called PitGroup. This less fancy name was our brand for 5 years until we opened our second office in Barcelona in 2008. We were not so happy with PitGroup anymore and wanted to bring something new to the Spanish market. Something that referred to Amsterdam as the creative capital with talented people but we also wanted to bring an alternative to the laidback Mañana Mañana mentality of most Spanish agencies. Our plan was to introduce a new quality-standard and on-time deliveries of projects. So we needed a good name for that… The inspiration and Eureka! moment for our new name actually came unexpectedly during a short toilet visit of one of our founders who visited New York in 2008 and saw American Standard as a well known brand name of the toilet sanitary and washbasins. The link to Amsterdam Standard was easily made. So never waste a good toilet visit for some good inspiration… ;) When we opened our third office in Krakow in 2011 we already liked our new name Amsterdam Standard so much that we used it again and also rebranded our Dutch company PitGroup into Amsterdam Standard. The market in 2011 in Poland was not that professional and mature as it is at the moment. Companies were not that nice to their employees. They were usually underpaid, exploited and asked to work on poor quality projects. Salary payments were not on time and the stress levels were high. We wanted to build a company with a great vibe, well equipped offices on AAA-locations, a good career path and excellent conditions. Something that was already normal in tech-capital Amsterdam but had not reached Poland yet. That's what we called “the Amsterdam Standard”. And till today those values are still our top priority. We strive to be the best employer in town and our people absolutely deserve and appreciate that.
